STOP AIDS, KEEP THE PROMISES
Mutapola Road Map 2005 - 2006

The following activities are anticipeted in 2005 - 2006

  • Partnership development will be key in the period. Although sone work is happening at the policy level and around voices, this work must of necessity be anchored at country level in programmes with demonstrable outcomes for women and girls. developing a clear monitoring and evaluation framework with both process and epidemiological indicators is going to be crucial.
  • A Programme Coordinator for women's rights and HIV and AIDS will be recruited in 2005 to take over coordination of all Mutapola activities.
  • The Mutapola Campaign will continue in 2005-2006. there will be futher country-level launches as well as side events at international events ( Internationally, we will prioritise the G8, the MDG review, and the ICASA conference in December of 2005). Key to the success of this campaign will be facilitating the creation of a network of women living with HIV and AIDS to strengthen voice, leadership and coordination around the issues of women and girls. We also need to do more work on recruit eminent women as ''Mutapola ambassadors'' and mobilising a stronger constituency of Mutapola voices.
  • What is sustaineble livehood for women & girls infected or afected by HIV and AIDS? while some analysis, mobilisation and policy positioning has taken place in the area of treatment & care, not enough work is being done to understand ''sustainable livelihood'' in the context of HIV and AIDS. In fact the terminology is almost an oxymoron! we will work with our patners regionally and internationally to investigate how economic empowerment programmes need to be transform both to take into account the enviroment of HIV and more importantly to address the real choices that are available for women. AAI will work with patners to investigate best practise, analyse ways in which programmes that are doing well can be scaled up (in ways that are socially sustainable) and develop clear policy positions in this area.
  • Resource mobiliasation around the four thematic thrustc will continue to be key. there is no douubt that there needsto be a massive scaling up of activities in the southen africa if we are to make a dent on HIV and AIDS. it is also clear that there is a dearth of activities that relate to women's rights and HIV and AIDS programmes specifically. while the proposed budget over 3 years may appear large , It is no where near the scale that is required to deal with the devastating impacts of HIV and AIDS in africa.
